Bathroom reconstruction part 1

Following the skirting boards being put on we made a start to the bathroom. Once of the first jobs was to cut a hole for the extractor fan. Of course with my current luck it just couldn't go well could it. I cut through the first skin of bricks and then got a huge jump from the drill. Took it back out and got a torch (it was abuot 10pm!) to find the biggest wall tie I've seen. Its about an inch wide and 1/4" thick and the diamond core drill didn't even scratch it.



Not a lot we could do about that apart from move to the side after checking there wasn't another wall tie there of course :)
So we ended up with 2 holes instead of one. thankfully the core for the second one came out in one piece and has been used to plug the first hole. bit of making good to be done around it but thats not a big problem.






Once this was done and the extractor was fitted then work on the tiling could commence. now the MIL might not be quick at laying tiles but she does a very nice job as she doesn't accept anything thats not perfect. OH is also learning and laying tiles. After a couple of days this is how it looks:















I also tanked the shower end of where the bath is going to go and then once we tried the bath in realised that it wasn't a good fit due to the walls not being at right-angles with each other. I made the decision to take the plaster off the walls and re-tank it to make the tiling easier and its also the right way to do it.

Finally we took delivery of the new toilet and sink yesterday and had the joy of unpacking them in the lounge. Got a problem with the pedestal being cracked on the bottom and a small mark on the cistern top too. Need to take that up with the retailer but it feels like we are making progress:
